Mele Endorses Proposition Six

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — Tuolumne County Sheriff Jim Mele is openly supporting Proposition Six, The Safe Neighborhoods Act, which will go before voters in November.

Mele says that lawmakers have been handing down deep cuts to public safety programs, including the California Methamphetamine Interdiction Program and the Small and Rural Sheriff´s Grant Program.

?We must secure public safety funding so we can work locally to protect the streets of our communities and not rely on Sacramento, as they continue to demonstrate a lack of regard for our needs as it relates to safety,? says Mele. ?Law enforcement is used as a huge pawn in the budget decision making at the Capitol.?

Proposition Six would protect the current gang prevention and intervention funding, prohibit bail to illegal aliens that are charged with violent crimes, and create tougher punishment for gang crimes, drive by shootings, methamphetamine distribution and victim intimidation. It is also designed to help victims who have been intimidated by gang members, and fund victim-witness protection programs.
