Jail Funding Will Not Be Affected By Budget Cuts

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, Ca — While major budget cuts are looming for the State of California, funding for counties such as Calaveras to construct a new jail facility will not be in jeopardy.

“We will, like every agency with state funding, be subject to the 10 percent cuts,” says Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum. “But the AB 900 money, which is slotted to build jails, will not be impacted because it is not general fund money.”

Calaveras County is hoping to receive as much as $30 million through funds set aside in AB 900 to help with the construction of a new law enforcement center. Calaveras County must have an application submitted to the state by March 18th.
