Ray Recognized For Outstanding Service For Crime Victims

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — August 20, 2006; it´s a date that 38 year old Darrin Ray will never forget.

On his way to teach a Sunday School class, Ray was hit headon by Ricky Holloway on Greenley Rd. near Sonora Elementary School. Holloway was driving under the influence of prescribed medication at well over the posted speed limit. After hitting a pickup truck Holloway preceeded up the hill when he collided with Ray´s westbound vehicle.

While Ray´s three year old daughter Carrmin was not seriously injured, Ray has undergone a half a dozen surgeries and almost two years later he is still using a walker. He currently has no feeling in a portion of his right foot which is covered by a soft cast.

This week District Attorney Donald Segerstrom recognized Ray as an outstanding community citizen for the role he has pursued since the accident. April 13-19 has been proclaimed Tuolumne County Crime Victims´ Rights Week.

Ray volunteers his time to serve in the Victim Impact Program for Juveniles through the county´s Probation Department. The program allows Ray to counsel those who may be headed in the wrong direction in their lives by the careless disregard of others.
