Calaveras County Supervisors To Close April Meetings Today

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — The highlight of today´s supervisorial meeting will be a 1:30 study session to review the budgets of the 22 county departments.

Board Chair Steve Wilensky states that each department has been asked to evaluate three key areas: technological efficiency, operational efficiency and structural efficiency.

Wilensky acknowledges that counties are struggling with a declining share of property taxes from Sacramento. In addition he says that counties are having an extremely difficult time financing unfunded mandates from the state.

Wilensky adds that the state´s 58 counties must do a better job of working with state government. His final comment; “If the situation doesn´t improve the state will wind up with bankrupt local governments, and I can´t imagine how that would help the state´s economy.”

Today´s open-to-the-public meeting will get underway at 9am at the Government Center on Mountain Ranch Rd.
