Groundbreaking Set For Next Month On Columbia College Public Safety Center

Sponsored by:

Columbia, Ca — Twain Harte´s Robert E. Boyer Construction, Inc. has been awarded the contract to construct a $2.8 million renovation and expansion of the Columbia College Public Safety Center.

According to the school, plans call for upgrading the existing 2,900 sq. ft. fire house and more than doubling the available space by constructing an adjoining 3,000 sq. ft. addition. The new structure will contain a residential facility with separate quarters for male and female fire science students.

The Center´s present structure will be modernized and will centralize offices for all college emergency services, including fire, dispatch and security into one location.

A public groundbreaking is scheduled for early June, with the completion estimated to be May of 2009. In the interim, modular buildings have been placed next to Symons Field on the college grounds to serve as a temporary fire house.

The project is funded by Measure E., which passed in 2004 by voters in the Yosemite Community College District´s area.
