Twain Harte Turns Out For Memorial Day Parade

Sponsored by:

Twain Harte, CA — Hundreds of Mother Lode residents turned out for the annual Memorial Day Parade and ceremonies honoring those who have given their lives in defense of this country.

The day´s festivities started with a parade led by a color guard representing the Viet Nam Veterans Post 391, the largest such post in California.

Bob Law explained the 12 folds of the American Flag while the correct folding of the flag was demonstrated by two veterans.

Each year an old flag next to the Arch is retired while a new one, in memory of a citizen who served and surrendered his life, is raised up the flag pole. This year Dr. David Minner, who died of heart disease three years ago, was so honored. His son Josh shared memories of his father with the crowd. Minner once served in Viet Nam.

God Bless America was sung by all in attendance and then it was the haunting sound of Tapps that closed the ceremony for 2008.

A hot dog picnic followed at Eproson Park.
