SRMC Hopes For Quick Transition Of Radiation Services

Sonora, Ca — Radiation services within the Cancer Center at Sonora Regional Medical Center are in the midst of a transition period as the contract with current outside provider OnCure will expire at the end of the month.

SRMC is in the process of purchasing the equipment needed and hiring the necessary staff to offer radiation services in house, but in the interim, patients will be forced to get their care out of the county.

“Our Medical Oncologist has let us know that his plan is to refer patients to the Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology services in Turlock, and we are working right now to identify transportation options for patients,” says SRMC Director of Marketing and Business Development Doug Duffield. “Likely a van service will be provided on a daily basis to take patients from the Sonora area down to Turlock and bring them back at the end of the day.”

SRMC currently does not have a timeframe for how long it will take to get its own radiation program up and running. Duffield says that the goal is to make it as quick and seamless as possible.
