Radanovich Says Payoffs Are Buying Healthcare Votes

Sponsored by:

Washington, DC — Congressman George Radanovich is adamantly against the Democratic compromise reached in the U.S. Senate on healthcare reform.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada indicates that 60 Senators are on board and a vote is scheduled for Thursday.

“It is a situation where people were bought off,” claims Radanovich. “A lot of people are referring to the Mary Landrieu situation in Louisiana as the ‘Louisiana Purchase.’ They purchased Mary Landrieu’s vote to pass the thing.”

Radanovich says Landrieu, a moderate Democrat, was convinced to vote for the package when $100 million was placed in for Medicaid payments to her state.

He refers to a similar situation as the “Cornhusker Kickback,” when Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska threw support behind the bill after $100 million in assistance to Medicaid was included for his state.

As Republicans voice out in opposition, Democrats claim that the package will pave the way for 30 million more Americans to receive health insurance.
