Calaveras County Probation Officer To Retire

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Within a year’s time the respective probation officers from Tuolumne and Calaveras counties are retiring.

Earlier this year Shirley Juhl retired as Tuolumne County’s Probation Officer to be succeeded by Adele Arnold. Now comes word that Michael Kriletich will be retiring from that same position in Calaveras County Friday after four years on the job.

Kriletich says there are a number of reasons for the retirement; “I’ve got 32 years of public service overall and hey, that’s a lot of time. Plus I always wanted to retire at the age of 58 and the way things are working out I’m retiring a year earlier than that. Also the way the government is going I’ll probably actually save a job by leaving when I’m leaving mid-year. By the time they move ahead and do some replacing here there will be some salary savings so it’s a perfect time for a lot of people not just me.”

His greatest satisfaction; “I’ve just always enjoyed working on a community level and seeing how everything is connected. My biggest joy has been when offenders and people that work in the system work together on a project.

We’ve done things as a community service project. For example we took a bunch of kids and built a raised bed garden at the Crisis Center and it wasn’t just kids on probation but kids in the community on a service learning project. It’s bringing people together to realize we all make mistakes sometime but we can work together to make things better.”

Kriletich will be honored at Mountain Oaks School at 1:30 Friday.
