Fire Season Ends At Yosemite
Yosemite National Park, CA — The fire season has officially ended at Yosemite for the 2009 season.
Closure of the fire season occurs when there is a season ending precipitation event totaling two or more inches. The rainfall totals from this week’s storm were nine inches in the Mariposa Grove, eight inches in Wawona and five and a half inches in Yosemite Valley.
The fire areas of the Grouse and Big Meadow also received measurable rain but had few run-off issues of mud or other debris to roads or to the Foresta community.
Helicopter 551 which is contracted for the fire season has left the park and seasonal fire personnel are completing their assignments and they will soon be departing.
The largest event of the year was the Big Meadow Fire which burned 7,425 acres. It was intended to be a 91 acre prescribed burn.
