Columbia College Plans To Build Permanent Calaveras Site

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — Columbia College is moving closer to having a permanent site in Angels Camp.

The Yosemite Community College District has agreed to acquire land located behind the Calaveras County Office Of Education building on South Main St., assuming that it is approved by the Calaveras County Board of Education.

Columbia currently offers classes out of a renovated space at the Glory Hole Shopping Center in Angels Camp, but there is no room for additional growth. With the construction of a new complex, the college will have an opportunity to slowly increase its offerings over time.

Columbia President Dr. Joan Smith states, “We are very excited and thrilled that the deal is coming to fruition. We look forward to offering courses in Calaveras County for a very long time as we continue to build on our great working relationship with Superintendent John Brophy and Calaveras County Schools.”

In Fall 2008, over 600 Columbia students (including full and part-time) resided in Murphys, San Andreas, Angels Camp, Copperopolis, Arnold, Valley Springs or Altaville.

Funding for construction will come from Measure E Bond money that was approved by voters in 2004.
