Calaveras County Projecting $2.1 Million Budget Gap

San Andreas, CA — When the new fiscal year begins July 1st, Calaveras County is projected to face a $2.1 million budget deficit.
The new revenue will likely come from a variety of different areas.
“I don’t think that there is any one proposal that would get the job done,” says Calaveras CAO Bob Lawton. “There are a number of county-wide strategies that we discussed Tuesday with the Board of Supervisors.”
“Many of them involve things short of layoffs of county employees,” he adds.
The Supervisors may consider pay cuts and furloughs as possible revenue boosters. Lawton will present his proposed budget to the Supervisors on June 1st.
