EIR Completed For Law And Justice Center

Sonora, CA — A 979 page Draft Environmental Impact Report has been completed for the Tuolumne County Law and Justice Center.

The document addresses potential impacts associated with construction of the 49 acre development on Wards Ferry Rd. off the Hwy 108 Bypass.

“Unavoidable Impacts” listed in the report include an increased amount of traffic on certain roads, notably portions of Greenley Rd., Mono Way and the Sanguinetti Loop.

Potential “Irreversible Environmental Changes” include the obstruction of hillside views from certain vantage points, increased noise, substantial light during the evening and the loss of agriculturally designated land.

The proposed 350,000 sq. ft. center would be constructed in phases and house a jail, Superior Courts, a juvenile detention facility, and offices for the Sheriff-Coroner, District Attorney, Public Defender and CHP.
A public comment meeting has been scheduled for Monday, May 4th, at 7pm in the Board of Supervisors Chambers.
