Latest SB 1 Projects Includes Hwy 120 Groveland-Yosemite Improvements

Sacramento, CA – More highway repair projects totaling $30 million are coming to the Mother Lode, say state transportation officials.

Highway 120 in Tuolumne County will be getting $26.4 million to fund the East Buck Meadows Pavement Project, improving just over 41 lane miles between Ferretti Road near the town of Groveland and Buck Meadows to the Yosemite National Park boundary.

Scope includes preserving pavement; upgrading guardrail, dikes, and transportation management system elements; repairing culverts and installing bicycle-friendly grates on drainage systems.

Another $4.1 million will cover a drainage project along Highways 88, 49, 108, and 120 in Tuolumne and Amador counties that will replace culverts and joints.

This week’s announcement comes out of the June meeting of the California Transportation Commission (CTC). In total, the board allocated more than $533 million to execute 120 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) projects throughout the state. Of the monies, more than $229 million will be used for 42 “fix-it-first” projects funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Since SB 1 was signed into law, Caltrans has repaired or replaced 115 bridges and paved almost 1,500 lane miles of the state’s highway system. The measure allows CTC to invest approximately $5.4 billion per year to fix roads, freeways and bridges in communities across the state as well as strategically investing in transit.

Officials estimate that SB 1 funds, which are split equally between state and local highway projects, will allow Caltrans to fix more than 17,000 lane miles of pavement, 500 bridges and 55,000 culverts by 2027.
