Sheriff’s Office Sets Up Emergency Command Post

Sponsored by:

San Andreas,CA– The Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (OES) continues to operate an incident command post set-up at the Ebbetts Pass Fire District Station in Arnold today.

Yesterday the OES also coordinated services in a multi-agency operation providing local residents in Calaveras County with needed assistance due to the affects of this week’s storms.

Heavy snow fall combined with fallen trees on power lines and across roadways has increased the need for assistance for residents in the upper end of the county. Cal-Fire crews from the Vallecito Camp are being used to assist Public Works in clearing fallen trees. PG&E currently has 14 crews working in the area, including contract crews from all around the state, as well as an additional 16 tree crews, to restore power as quick as possible.

The National Weather Service has predicted freezing temperatures throughout the day today with heavy snow fall at higher elevations. The current weather status has made it difficult to estimate the restoration of power outages, but PG&E continues to work on the issues throughout the storm. The Calaveras County Water District is maintaining full service at this time.

Local agencies are working hard and coordinating efforts to clear roadways and restore power as soon as possible. The Calaveras Sheriff OES is working with the Red Cross in setting up a local warming center for residents without power and will update with that information as soon as possible. To report lane blockages or other county road issues call Public Works at 754-6402 or the Calaveras Sheriff Dispatch at 754-6500. To obtain the current status of snow removal on county roads call 754-6017.
