California Governor And Lawmakers Receiving Pay Raise

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The state’s Citizen Compensation Commission has approved a pay raise for California lawmakers, effective December 2nd.

The panel granted a 4-percent raise for the Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, Controller, Insurance Commissioner, Lt. Governor and members of the Senate and Assembly. For example, Governor Gavin Newsom will receive $209,747 and legislators will be paid $114,877.

The commission cut salaries during the economic recession, but has been increasing them over the past seven years. The increases are being criticized by taxpayer groups like the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. California currently has the highest paid lawmakers in the country, but it is noted that New York lawmakers will surpass California next year as salaries are scheduled to increase to $120,000 for legislators and $225,000 for the Governor.
