Whooping Cough Vaccinations Recommended

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA— Health experts from the California Department of Public Health today broadened their recommendations for immunizing against whooping cough. CDPH Chief of the Center of Infectious Disease Dr. Gilbert Chavez says this could be the worst year for whooping cough California has seen in 50 years.

The California Department of Public Health recommends whooping cough vaccinations for anyone 7 years and older who are not fully immunized, those more than 64 years of age and women of childbearing age, before, during , or immediately after pregnancy and other people who have contact with pregnant women or infants.  Chavez adds that immunity from the pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine or disease wears off and that most adults are susceptible to whooping cough.
