Yosemite Unveils Sustainable Lodging

Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA — With Earth Day coming up Thursday, Yosemite National Park is unveiling ways that it is “going green.”

Two prototype guest rooms featuring environmentally friendly interior design were unveiled today at the Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, located in Yosemite Valley.

Park Ranger Scott Gediman says the rooms feature automatically controlled energy-saving cooling and heating systems, insulation made from 85 percent recycled newspapers, toilets using just over one gallon per flush and 100 percent organic sheets produced in a solar-powered factory.

“These are cutting edge, state of the art, environmentally sustainable rooms,” says Gediman. “Two designers put these together and we’re hoping this will eventually be what all of the rooms will look like.”

A ribbon cutting was also held today for a new store in Yosemite called, “Habitat,” that features products made from recycled material.
