Supervisors Seek Teen Input
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors are creating a “Youth Commission.”
It is designed to be a way for students ages 13-18 to get involved with county government and foster effective leadership.
District One Supervisor Liz Bass proposed the idea, and it is similar to an effort that was carried out by the City of Sonora while she was on the City Council.
The Youth Commission will be administered by the Recreation Department and be a part of its activity menu.
The Department will work with schools and other youth based organizations to recruit young people for the commission. Meetings will be held quarterly at the Board of Supervisors Chambers where students can give input on issues, and the meetings will include adults who will advise/mentor the youth on public policy.
The Chair of the Board of Supervisors will work as a liaison between the commission and the Supervisors.
Creation of the commission was approved by the Supervisors 5-0.
