Yosemite Remains Open

Sponsored by:

The latest round of storms has brought plenty of snow to Yosemite National Park, according to Yosemite National Park Ranger and spokesperson, Scott Gediman.

Gediman was KVML’s Wednesday “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Although official measurements have not yet been taken, Gediman believes that the higher elevations of the Park has received over six to seven feet of snow, just within the five days.

Gediman says that Yosemite is a year round Park and although there is a lack of hiking and camping at this time of the year, visitors will find plenty to do.

Snowshoes can be rented inside of the Park. There is also an outdoor ice-skating rink and snow skiing takes place at Badger Pass Ski area (within the Park).

Additionally, most restaurants, galleries and visitors centers all remain open.

Even though the bears are hibernating, wildlife can still be seen in abundance from mule deer and coyotes to gray foxes.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” can be heard each weekday morning at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47 on AM-1450 KVML.
