Sheriff’s Department Warns Of Possible Scam

San Andreas, CA– Calaveras County authorities are warning residents of a possible scam.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a concerned resident sent them an email regarding a suspicious phone call received on December 12th. The email stated that the unidentified caller told them that the Sheriff’s Department considered the location of their home to be in “a high crime area with lots of home break-ins.”

The caller also asked the homeowner if they had an alarm system for their home installed. They further advised that they could install an alarm system free of charge. The homeowner then promptly hung up the phone.

The Sheriff’s Office says that the public needs to remain cautious about scams and fraudulent deals. Upon receiving similar phone calls, it is advised that a person get the phone number, business name, caller’s name, and any bond or contractor’s licensing numbers prior to accepting the proposal.

If the caller refuses to give this information, or provides fraudulent information, then most likely the deal is a scam and should be reported to local law enforcement.

Legitimate alarm installers and companies will provide any documentation or references requested.
