Motorcycle Accidents On The Rise
San Andreas, CA– Motorcycle accidents are becoming more frequent in the Mother Lode.
That’s according to the California Highway Patrol. The San Andreas CHP reports that so far this year, there have been 36 injury accidents involving motorcycles and one fatality. In 2010, there were 63 motorcycle collisions and two fatalities.
“We do want to reemphasize to always look twice for motorcycles,” said San Andreas CHP Officer Jaime Castillo. “And if you’re a rider, to never assume that the rider sees you. Slow down and share the road.”
In Tuolumne County, the Sonora area CHP reports that so far in 2011, there have been 40 reported motorcycle collisions and 3 fatalities involving motorcycles. In 2010, there were 37 total motorcycle collisions and no motorcyclist fatalities.
Statewide, the CHP says that in 2010, the number of people killed in motorcycle collisions was down 9 percent from the previous year, and the number of people injured in motorcycle involved collisions appears to be down 8.8 percent.
Over the summer, the CHP promoted Motorcycle Safety Awareness. Throughout the statewide campaign, the CHP placed an emphasis on the “Share the Road” message. They held several road sharing presentations and conducted several highly publicized motorcycle safety enforcement operations.
