Fighting Lawsuit Abuse

The verdict is in and it’s not good. California is one of the most litigious states in the nation.

How bad is it? Nearly 1.4 million lawsuits are filed in California every year. While some of these lawsuits have merit, many do not and these lawsuits are costing each and every resident.

Travis Hausauer, co/chair of California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) was Wednesday’s “Newsmaker of the Day”.

CALA is a nonpartisan grassroots movement of concerned citizens and businesses who are fighting against lawsuit abuse in California.

The group serves as a watchdog to challenge the abuse of our civil justice system, and engages both the public and the media to deliver the message that lawsuit abuse is alive and well in California – and that all Californians are paying the price.

According to Hausauer, seven out of ten voters believe California’s liability laws make it harder for employers to do business and succeed in California, and 74 percent believe that enacting lawsuit reform is an important part of improving California’s business environment and attracting and keeping jobs.

With local leaders and deep community connections, CALA is thought to be effective because it represents real people – small business owners, professionals, homeowners and others who have been victims of lawsuit abuse, or who are tired of paying for a legal system that rewards abuse. CALA, a 501(c)4 nonprofit, claims to not be not be a lobbying organization.
