Breaking Ground In Columbia
Sonora, CA– Four Tuolumne County families broke ground this weekend on their future homes at Parrotts Ferry Village.
Tuolumne County’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity held the official groundbreaking of the new Columbia area subdivision Saturday afternoon.
Habitat for Humanity Board President Ted Michaud and Executive Director Betsy Harden were on hand to welcome the crowd of nearly 100 people.
Harden says she was glad to see an outpouring from the community and was grateful for the generosity from local businesses and community organizations.
“The whole community is here to support us and I’m just thrilled, said Harden. “And the families have been so patient with us. They were all selected back in November of 2010. We thought we’d have a little bit faster build schedule. So their knowledge that now it’s real and that we’re breaking ground, it means everything to them.”
Harden says the next step for the Habitat homes is to complete more ground work and then pour the foundation. She says the first duplex is expected to be built later this year and the second home should be completed by the spring of 2012.
The newest Habitat partner families include: Richard and Regina Villegas and their children Alexia, 5, and Richard Jr., 3; Mark and Tina Walts and their children Matthew, 10, and Tianna, 3; Nick and Sandra Gee with their children Jonathan, 7, Noah, 4, and Joey, 2; and Mara Roberts-Armstrong and her children, Joanna, 16, Anthony, 11, Bella, 5, Conception, 12, and Alex, 6.
The new subdivision is located at 22185 Parrotts Ferry Road, between Sonora and Columbia.
