Quarry Discussed In Closed Session
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors met in closed session this week to discuss a pair of lawsuits aimed at the Cooperstown Quarry project.
County Administrator Craig Pedro says the Supervisors decided to “tender its defense to the applicant,” which is the Gardella family. “If the lawsuits proceed, the responsibility to defend the lawsuit would fall to the applicant,” says Pedro. “It will be their decision whether they want to pursue it through the court, to pull back the project, or to do what the opponents would like, and have a full Environmental Impact Report completed.”
One lawsuit was filed by a pair of area environmental organizations (Friends of the Mother Lode and CSERC), and the second was filed by the City of Riverbank. To read a recent article discussing the lawsuits click here.
