Smartmeters Overcharging Some Customers

San Francisco, CA– Some Northern and Central California PG&E Smartmeters are overcharging customers.
Officials say that these defective meters can overcharge customers when they overheat. Nearly 1,600 of the gas meters powered by wireless electricity and gas were found to be affected by the defect.
Electricity usage was sometimes misread when their internal temperature topped 100 degrees.
PG&E says defective meters have been replaced or will be replaced soon. Customers affected will also receive refunds averaging $40 along with a $25 credit.
Many utilities use the digital Smarmeters across the country. PG&E has installed nearly 8 million and has plans for another 2 million.
