Dogs To Invade Twain Harte
The Twain Harte Business Association and Soroptomists International of Twain Harte are holding the second annual “Who let the Dogs Out in Twain Harte?” dog parade and family day, on Saturday, April 23, from 11 AM to 2 PM.
Dawn Cronin, volunteer, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
The day-long event is a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Tuolumne County.
Dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes will march along Twain Harte’s main street, beginning at noon.
Anyone with a dog, dogs or a dog club is invited to participate. There will be plenty of after-parade family fun activities. The human howling contest was especially popular in its inaugural debut and we’re hoping for even more howlers.”
This year’s grand marshal is “Tuolumne,” a nine-year-old border collie cross who has been the “door greeter” at All That Matters, in Twain Harte, for the past six years. He is certified with Therapy Dog International, and was adopted from the Humane Society of Tuolumne County. His favorite activities are hiking, kayaking with his owner, Babs Desrosiers, and chasing sheep.
McGruff the Crime Dog® will make a special guest appearance at the end of the parade and be available for photos with the kids.
The parade will culminate with the arrival of a special celebrity guest.
Dog owners may register for the parade at 11:30 at the staging area in back off the Twain Harte 7-11. A $5 donation is requested for each dog. Proceeds go to the Humane Society.
Dogs are invited to dress up and participate in the best-dressed dog over 50 lbs. and best-dressed dog under 50 lbs. contests. The dogs will be reviewed as they walk before a panel of judges during the parade. There will be a human howling contest immediately after the parade as well as the awarding of the costume contest winners. There is no charge for any of the contests.
There will also be dog obedience demonstrations, a Humane Society dog-petting area, a “meet the therapy dogs” booth, hot dogs, dog balloon animals and pet-related vendors.
This year’s parade is dedicated to “Cowboy,” a beloved Therapy Dog who served as the 2010 grand marshal.
