‘Tuolumne Tomorrow’ Envisions The Future

Sponsored by:

The purpose of Tuolumne Tomorrow is to create a plan for the future of Tuolumne County.

Darrin Grossi, Tuolumne Tomorrow spokesman, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

Public participation is a key aspect of Tuolumne Tomorrow and the project staff will connect with Tuolumne County residents through a series of workshops and other outreach methods to discuss the community’s vision for the coming years.

They wish to facilitate dialogue about the four proposed growth scenarios and reach a consensus for a Preferred Growth Plan for Tuolumne County. This future plan will include locally-preferred alternatives to transportation, housing, economic development, land use and the environment which will provide the foundation for future County planning documents.

The decisions made will affect residents for 10, 20 and 50 years into the future. With residents help, they are and will be developing a Blueprint for Growth for Tuolumne County.

The Blueprint Planning Committee created these Guiding Principles, which provide direction for future policies and objectives:

Provide for an adequate supply of housing opportunities and choices.
Create safe, healthy, walkable and vibrant communities.
Promote distinctive, attractive communities with a strong sense of place.
Increase the quantity of Mixed Use land uses.
Minimize the impacts to natural resources.
Provide a variety of transportation choices.
Reduce the region’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Make development decisions predictable, fair and cost effective.
Provide for an adequate supply of commercial, industrial, recreational and tourism uses.

The first round of community workshops are next week:

February 14, 2011 at Groveland Community Hall, 1 pm – 4 pm
February 15, 2011 at Elks Lodge in Sonora, 1 pm – 4 pm
February 15, 2011 at Jamestown Elementary School, 6 pm – 8:30 pm
February 16, 2011 at Veterans Memorial Hall in Tuolumne City, 6 pm – 9 pm
