Yosemite Expands Email List

Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA – Yosemite National Park reports in total they have sent out 2900 emails to past visitors warning them of possible exposure to the deadly Hauntavirus. Already two people have died from the virus that stayed at the park.

As of Monday night, the park had sent out 1700 emails, but Park Officials say they expanded the number of emails sent to cover the months of July and August too. They say they will resend those emails again tomorrow just as a precaution.

Park Officials say an epidemic specialist from Colorado is working with the Parks Health Official to to investigate the dangerous airborne disease produced by mice. Ranger Kari Cobb says “They’re going to Curry Village and they’re trapping these mice to do studies on them to determine what percentage of the population has the Hantavirus, see what the numbers are and make sure the population is healthy and what the natural balance is good for the park and what it can support.”
Cobb says if the percentage is high they are already taking precautions by cleaning and inspecting all buildings for mice problems.

Yosemite National Park has set up a general, non-emergency phone line for all questions and concerns related to hantavirus in Yosemite National Park.
The phone number is (209) 372-0822 and it will be staffed from 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. daily.
