First Day Of School For New Superintendent
Groveland, CA — Today is the first day of school for the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District.
Dave Urquhart, the brand new Big Oak Flat-Groveland School District Superintendent/Principal, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
If the name sounds familiar in local education, it should. Urquhart was a Summerville High School administrator for twenty-seven years, last serving as Principal.
Urquhart has also worked at Jamestown School, Calaveras High School, Cassina High School and Sonora High School.
This new job is a step up, as Urquhart has added Superintendent responsibilities.
Urquhart started as the new Principal/Superintendent on July 1st. He was the unanimous choice last spring among all five Big Oak Flat Groveland School Board members.
Urquhart replaces Jim Frost, who announced his resignation in December.
“The entire community has been very welcoming” said Urquhart. “There are new challenges for me in dealing with a smaller staff, student population and school budgets.”
The district is made up of Moccasin School, Teneya Elementary (270 students), Tioga High School (90 students), Don Pedro High School (25 students).
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
