Sonora’s First Ever ‘Old West Fest’ This Saturday

Sponsored by:

The streets of downtown Sonora will be filled with pedestrians in period costumes, arts, music and more this Saturday as the first ever Old West Fest will take place from 10:30 AM through 4 PM in downtown Sonora along Washington Street.

Sheala Wilkenson, City of Sonora Special Events Coordinator, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The brand new Old West Fest replaces historic downtown Sonora’s annual “Spring Festival”. This free event will run along both sides of Washington Street from the Red Church to the Opera Hall and include several of the side streets.

Residents and visitors alike are invited to check out the various arts, crafts and vendors booths. There will also be plenty of live outdoor music. Additionally, the public may find plenty of food, beverages, horses, stage coaches, western shoot-outs, business specials and more.

Featured events in downtown Sonora this weekend will also include the movie, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” on Friday night at the Sonora Opera Hall. There is a $5 fee, with the proceeds going towards the Sonora Chamber of Commerce. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Around 6:30 pm, a Stage Coach filled with Columbia Docents from the Columbia Diggins, will be rolling down Washington Street to the Opera Hall. There is a costume contest at 6:45. The movie starts at 7:00 pm.

On Saturday afternoon from 3 through 6 PM, the Old West Fest Sip n’ Taste, hosted by Tuolumne County Agriculture Collaboration ,will take place at the Sonora Opera Hall. This is a celebration of local wineries, breweries, restaurants and caterers. Tickets will be available at the door. The proceeds will support the Don Pedro, Sonora & Summerville FFA Chapters.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 on AM 1450 and FM 102.7 KVML.
