Update: Winter Storm Watch Issued For The Sierra Nevada

Sponsored by:

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sierra Nevada above 5,000 feet, from Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night.

A late-season winter storm will bring significant accumulating snow to the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada later this week.

There will be the potential for travel delays through the higher passes across the northern Sierra Nevada. Significant reductions in visibility are possible. Plan on difficult, if not impossible, travel conditions.

Heavy snow is likely above 5,000 feet. The snow levels will start out around 8,500 feet on Wednesday afternoon and then drop through the day on Thursday to around the 5,500 foot elevation.

The total snow accumulations will range from five inches to two feet, above the 8,000 foot elevation.

Additionally, the winds could gust to as high as forty-five mph.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
