Vote By Mail Rising

Sacramento, CA — The Associated Press says nearly two-thirds of California voters cast their vote by mail in the June election. That’s a new record for the state.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen certified the results of the primary election yesterday. She reports that only 31 percent of the state’s registered voters, or about 5.3 million people, turned out to the polls to vote.

Overall, 5,328,296 voters participated in the election, which is 31.1% of the total voters registered in the state. The lowest voter turnout for any statewide election in California was 28.2% in June 2008.

Amador County had one of the highest turnouts in the state with 57.1%.
