Repeal Death Penalty?

Sponsored by:

California voters will decide in November whether to repeal the state’s death penalty.

Proponents of the ballot measure supplied the over 550,000 signatures needed to the Secretary of State’s Office to place the issue on the ballot. The initiative would specifically replace the death penalty with a life in prison sentence without the possibility of parole.

The use of capital punishment was approved by California voters back in 1978. It is one of five ballot measures currently scheduled to go before voters in November. Others deal with water, state Senate district maps, political contributions and auto insurance.
