Semi Pro Football Begins Second Season In Sonora

Sponsored by:

Yes, there is a semi pro football team in the Mother Lode and we spoke to the woman who owns the team.

Caroline Hess was Wednesday’s “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The TC Outlaws is a non profit football team that is about to begin their second football season in the Mother Lode. The team consists of players and dancers from both Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.

TC Outlaws is a team for ages 18 and up and the dancers are 16 and up. They have many volunteers that help with coaching, announcing, ticket sales, etc. There are no paid staff, every position is on a volunteer basis.. Eventually their goal is to raise enough money to offer college scholarships to young adults in these communities and provide football camps to the youth pop warner teams.

This Friday March 30th, the Outlaws will play at home at Sonora High School. They will also play a home game at Bret Harte High school later this year.

Hess started this team in order to help  young men in the community stay involved and stay out of trouble.

According to Hess, “When they are involved in football they are kept busy and involved in the community and we are providing the chance to be seen at the next level. If this helps one young man, it is well worth it. I know from personal experience.”

Due to the costs of running this team, the funds are limited. Hess pays a majority of the expenses out of her pocket. She is looking for any help she can get so that the team can let the entire community know that they are out there.

The football full schedule and roster is posted on http://www.tcoutlaws.com.

For more information, Hess can be reached at (209) 768-1646.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
