Paddle To The Sea Along The Tuolumne River

Sponsored by:

Outdoor enthusiasts are embarking on a 241 mile journey to raise awareness about the Tuolumne River.

The Tuolumne River Trust’s third annual “Paddle to the Sea” will start (today) Friday May 17th.

Patrick Coppel, Tuolumne River Trust board member, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day.”

Kayakers, rafters, canoers and sailors will begin above Groveland in the Tuolumne River and will travel through the central valley, passing the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin Rivers, and finish in San Francisco on June 23rd.

There will be a Paddle to the Sea Kick-off Concert featuring Poor Man’s Whiskey on Saturday, May 18th at Mountain Sage Nursery, 18653 Main Street in Groveland, CA. Doors open 3pm / Show 4pm. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

The Tuolumne River Trust says it is using the event to promote water conservation, raise awareness about salmon and teach stewardship.

There is one major setback. A van that was to be used to shuttle participants in the Paddle to the Sea event, was stolen in Oakland on Wednesday night. It is a white 2004 Ford E350 passenge van with “Tuolumne River Trust” on the side of the van and a gear rack on top.

The Trust is asking for the public’s help in either donating a van or lending help, beginning immediately.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45am.
