Columbia Planners Reject Apartment Complex

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — The Columbia Area Planning Commission rejected the construction of an apartment complex, but that does not mean it won’t be built. The proposal by Golden State Holdings to build an 80 unit apartment complex was denied by the Commission on grounds it didn’t fit in with the community’s general plan.

Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency Deputy Director Mike Laird says, “Their application request involved several entitlements. They had a general plan amendment and a zone change. They were requesting Commission approval of a use permit and a design review permit. The Commission recommended denial of the general plan amendment and the zone change to the county board of supervisors. They also denied the two permits. The developer has appealed the Commissions denial of the permits so the entire package, all four entitlements, will be going to the board of supervisors to decide.”

The proposal calls for six apartment buildings, a clubhouse, swimming pool, detached vehicle garages, and covered carports. The project would be spread over 5.3 acres along the northwest corner of the intersection of Union Hill Road and Parrotts Ferry Road. To view a map, click here.

Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors will have the final say on the apartment complex at its April 16th meeting.
