Palmer, Betty Leona

It is with great sadness we note the passing of Betty Leona Palmer. Born July 18, 1937 in Oroville, California, Betty left this earth to be with our heavenly Father on January 21, 2019. She passed quietly in the hospital, surrounded by family, and blanketed with love.

Betty raised her 5 children in the tiny town of Lotus, California. While she loved pink carnations, crochet, embroidery, and sewing, Betty could swing a hammer with the best of them. Neighbors and town-folk alike marveled at the trees she felled, the barn she built, the fence she strung, and the strong, beautiful children she raised – practically on her own. Betty left behind a legacy of love, creativity, art, cooking, and a “can-do” spirit that her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren embody to this day.

Betty was larger than life, with a heart of gold, and a smile as bright and warm as the sun. And while Betty never claimed to have the best of everything, she most certainly made the best of everything. Betty’s daughter Annette provides an example: “Since we lived so far out we couldn’t go trick or treating so she would save all the toys from our cereal boxes and crackerjacks and put them in a pinata my brother would make every year.”

Long the center of the family-universe, Betty’s passing leaves a painful void that only time and love can heal, but in keeping with her “can-do” spirit, her legacy lives on through favorite dishes, funny stories, and an unwavering belief in God and family. While her passing was not entirely unexpected, the loss is devastating just the same. We loved her dearly.

Betty was preceded in death by Howard (son), Mary (sister) and is survived by Dana (son), Alan (son), Annette (daughter), Nancy (daughter), Loula (sister), Clyde (brother), and numerous grand children and great grandchildren.

Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.
