CAL Fire Under Maximum Enforcement Due To Illegal Burns
San Andreas, CA – Even with incoming wet weather ahead of this week’s Thanksgiving holiday, CAL Fire officials are reminding residents and visitors that burn suspensions remain in effect.
Until CAL Fire declares fire season is over, officials stress that the prohibition continues on all outdoor burning. CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit officials particularly note that due to the number of recent misdemeanor citations for burning debris issued in both counties, through the holiday weekend and beyond CAL Fire personnel will be applying maximum enforcement measures for the sake of public safety.
Sharing some tips ahead of the holiday, CAL Fire suggests that those with debris piles already prepared should cover them with tarps to keep them dry until the burn suspension is lifted.
With fireplace and woodstove burning now underway, officials remind folks that the negligent disposal of hot ashes is a leading cause of fires in and near homes. As fireplace ashes can remain hot for a week or more, proper safety protocol calls for using a metal pail or bucket to remove hearth ashes and bring them outside, where they should additionally be mixed with water in the bucket — and left well away from any combustibles until cool to the touch.
