Fire Weather Watch Issued For The Weekend

Sponsored by:

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Mother Lode and the Stanislaus National Forest from Saturday evening through Monday morning.

The current Red Flag Warning for both areas expires at 11 AM this morning.

Breezy winds of ten to twenty mph with gusts from twenty-five to thirty mph will continue this morning. The humidity recovery over night was quite low, ranging from fifteen to twenty-five. This combination is keeping fire weather conditions critical this morning.

The winds will decrease through the morning hours. Breezy conditions will continue before finally dropping down in all areas by this afternoon.

A weak system passing to the north of the state Saturday will bring another round of breezy north to east winds Saturday night through early Monday. Some gusts may reach forty to forty-five mph. With humidity recovery expected from the teens to thirty percent, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for late Saturday evening through early Monday.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
