CAL Fire Urges Continued Caution This Season

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Despite the cooler temperatures in the Mother Lode, burning remains suspended indefinitely due to the dry conditions in the region.

CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit spokesperson Emily Kilgore says, “Conditions in the fuel bed are still very dry, so we want to remind people that burn permits are still suspended. If you are going to take part in activities that require equipment, make sure that you have proper clearance and spark arresters, as well as tools and water available, should a fire occur.”

Kilgore adds, “For the homeowners that use alternative heating sources such as fireplaces and wood burning stoves, make sure that you have done all of the maintenance to those, including cleaning the chimney. And when you use the fireplace, make sure to put the coals in a metal can for several days afterwards and that they are cool to the touch before discarding them.”

CAL Fire’s staffing, along with air and ground resources, remain at regular levels due to the continued high fire threat.
