Update at 2:03pm: The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office shares the following update regarding a robbery that occurred around 9:30 this morning at a Mokelumne Hill residence, which led to a vehicle chase and a search for a suspect who fled on foot.

According to sheriff’s officials, 32-year-old female victim called their office to report a robbery at her home, adding that she woke up to find several people inside her house who took money from her. The victim also reported that her vehicle was shot at by one of the suspects. The report resulted in dispatch sending out a “be on the look out” notice regarding the suspect’s vehicle to surrounding agencies. As reported below, the action resulted in a massive response and CHP officers shortly thereafter located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle just outside of Jackson.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office states that two suspects have been arrested from that stop and that detectives are now conducting an investigation. Officials did not release any further details although as also reported below, the suspect who fled the scene and who remains at large has been identified.

Update at 1:21pm: Law enforcement officials have pulled the perimeter and ended a lockdown in place for the past few hours during a search for an elusive robbery suspect.

Amador County Undersheriff Gary Redman reports, “We still have some units roving in the area.” He adds that the suspect has been identified but declined to release the name due to the fact that the investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. He notes that a couple of weapons were found in the Mustang but did not have any details as to the two detained individuals who were in the vehicle.  Clarke Broadcasting has calls into Sheriff Rick DiBasilio’s office and is awaiting a call back.

A green Ford Mustang with a shattered windshield sat by the side of Highway 88 near the 10,500 block, efforts to locate the person focused in the fields and surrounding terrain north of Highway 88 and northwest of Ridge Road for about three-and-a-half hours. A massive regional search response included a CHP helicopter and K9 team.

Redman earlier shared with Clarke Broadcasting that the search would continue until authorities were pretty confident the suspect was no longer contained within the perimeter, noting that due to the rural location, it was possible for someone to slip outside the area before it was completely secure. Along with local businesses in the area, Independence High in Sutter Creek was among the locations under lockdown.

Original Post at 12:23pm: Jackson, CA – Folks in the Jackson-Martell area should expect heavy police activity, including a helicopter in the air; all relating to a reported armed robbery in Mokelumne Hill this morning.

Clarke Broadcasting is following the incident and can confirm with law enforcement officials that a CHP helicopter is looking for a suspect who reportedly fled on foot following a vehicle chase from the alleged robbery scene. According to the CHP, following a 911 call around 9:35 this morning and the issuing of a “be on the lookout” bulletin, officers gave chase to a vehicle matching the description, which they stopped on Highway 88 outside Martell shortly afterwards, also detaining subjects.

At this point the surrounding area where the vehicle was stopped is on lockdown. Nearby businesses have reported that they have been told to stay inside and not let anybody in or out. We will provide more information as it comes into the news center.
