Butte Fire Signs Can Now Come Down, Be Recycled
San Andreas, CA – While vestiges of the 2015 Butte Fire will remain for years to come, Calaveras County officials say signs that literally marked debris removal sites can now be taken down.
The massive 70,868-acre Butte Fire wildfire disaster, which ignited during the afternoon of Sept. 9 in Amador County and quickly crossed over into Calaveras County, destroyed 475 homes and over 300 outbuildings before it was contained on Oct. 1. Two residents perished in the blaze. The cause was determined to be a tree that came into contact with PG&E power lines.
During the recovery phase, responding disaster crews posted signage at hundreds of properties that participated in the Cal Recycle debris removal program. The signs, used by Cal OES, Cal Recycle and the county to coordinate the project with the various agencies, marked all the involved sites.
Now that the work is finished, county officials say property owners can remove the signs – and they can be recycled. Anyone requiring assistance in removing the project signs and posts should call the Department of Public Works at 209 754-6401.
