Sonora High School’s Homecoming Tonight
School and town spirit will be on display in downtown Sonora this afternoon for the annual homecoming parade.
Ben Howell, Sonora High School Principle, was Friday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Howell is a Sonora High School graduate (’98), who returned to teach at his Alama Mater in 2007.
Attending the University of Nevada Reno, and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English and Language studies in 2004, Howell pursued a career in teaching shortly following the completion of his degree. Returning to Sonora in 2007, Ben taught freshmen and senior level English. In 2012, Howell was hired as the Assistant Principal of Student Services. He received his Masters Degree in Education Leadership and School Administration from California State University Stanislaus in 2013.
“Sonora is a great supportive community and the school is part of the community,” says Howell. “Thanks to the cooperation of city, county and state sources, Highway 49 will be temporarily shut down this afternoon to have an enjoyable parade.”
The parade is essentially made up of the entire student body and will include floats, classic cars and the Golden Regiment Marching Band. Immediately following the parade, the band will perform a concert at Courthouse Park.
The parade is scheduled to begin on Washington Street just after 2:20 pm. Details about road closures and parking limitations were reported here.
The Homecoming Queen will be crowned during halftime of the Wildcats Varsity football game starting at 7 PM.
Game tickets will be available at the entrance gates tonight.
According to Howell, everyone who wants to get into the game will get in, even if it means standing room only.
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on Star 92.7 FM and it will be streamed on mymotherlode.com. Star 92.7 is the radio home of Wildcats football.
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 on AM 1450 KVML and FM 102.7 KVML.
