CHP IDs Highway 4 Fatal Crash Victim
San Andreas, CA – The CHP has released more details, including the name of the motorcyclist who lost his life along Highway 4 following an alleged drunk driving collision caused by a local resident.
The rider, 65-year-old Geoffrey Ramsay of Stayton, Oregon, was killed yesterday east of Bear Valley Road after being ejected from his 2016 Indianmaster with which he was also pulling a motorcycle trailer. CHP officials arrested Brian Montgomery, 48, of Dorrington at the scene for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
As we reported yesterday here, the crash occurred in the afternoon early in the one o’clock hour after Montgomery, while driving his 2001 Toyota 4 Runner west along the highway, allowed the vehicle to drift directly into the path of the motorcycle. It struck Ramsay head-on then overturned, blocking the roadway.
Montgomery was initially transported by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center and later admitted to Marshall Medical Center for further treatment. He faces an additional felony charge of DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol level above 08 percent.
CHP San Andreas area officials state they and the Alpine County District Attorney’s Office are currently working to identify more charges that the DA may file later.
Highway 4 was closed for nearly four hours as a result of the crash for accident cleanup and a crime scene investigation.
