Update: Excessive Heat Watch Issued For The Mother Lode
The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the Mother Lode and the Northern San Joaquin Valley, which is in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.
Strong high pressure will build into Northern California late this week, bringing a period of hot temperatures across the region. Much of the Central Valley and portions of the Mother Lode are likely to top 100 to 108 degrees Friday through Sunday. There is potential for heat-related illness (including heat exhaustion and heat stroke) to humans, pets, and livestock with long outdoor exposure.
Additionally, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the Mother Lode (below 3,000 feet) and the Northern San Joaquin Valley, from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.
North wind gusts will range from fifteen to twenty mph with gusts up to thirty mph.
Afternoon minimum humidities will fall to as low as eight to twelve percent with areas of very poor overnight recovery.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected and will create a Dangerous Situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
