DUI Blamed For Fatal Crash That Closed HWY 4
Update at 5:15 p.m.: The CHP reports that the roadway has reopened after a fatal head-on motorcycle versus SUV crash on Highway 4, a quarter mile east of Bear Valley in Alpine County. Officer Toby Butzler in the San Andreas Unit of the CHP says alcohol played a role in the wreck. “The driver of the SUV was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol, felony charges for causing death and injuries to others . That person was flown to a hospital in Roseville for treatment.”
There is no word on their condition. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family. The highway was closed for nearly four hours as investigators surveyed the scene and then a tow crew removed the wreckage. The collision happened around 1 20 p.m.
Original post at 2:p.m.: Bear Valley, CA — One person has died in a motorcycle versus SUV crash on Highway 4, a quarter mile east of Bear Valley in Alpine County.
The CHP reports another person is being flown from the scene, but no details have been released on their condition. The highway has been closed due to the SUV being overturned and blocking the roadway.  The CHP relays that the closure will be in place for several hours as the crash scene is investigated and cleared.
