Murphys Man Facing Felony Assault Charges
Murphys, CA – CHP officials who received a be-on-the-lookout bulletin for a man wanted for an alleged assault with a deadly weapon say they were able to arrest him but not without a fight.
According to San Andreas Unit spokesperson Sgt. Gary Soria, on Saturday night in the 7 o’clock hour, an officer observed 47-year-old Israel Samuel Davis of Murphys speeding along Highway 4 in the Murphys area and followed him to Jones Street near Scotts Street, where they stopped him outside what turned out to be his residence.
Attempting to detain him for the assault charge, which stemmed from an incident about two hours earlier on Six Mile Road near Fair Oaks Lane, the officer saw Davis become combative.
Officer Soria recounts that the suspect hit the officer in the face with his hands as he was being handcuffed. After a scuffle, Davis was subdued and after being medically cleared he was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on felony assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm from the earlier incident as well as for felony battery against a peace officer and resisting arrest. He is also facing a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge.
