Sponsored by:

Los Angeles, CA — Governor Jerry Brown is asking for help from Washington, DC for extra financial resources to respond to wildfires burning in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego and Ventura counties.

The Associated Press reports the latest wildfire tore through retirement communities yesterday built on golf courses in San Diego County. The Lilac Fire is 4,100 acres. It also killed elite thoroughbred horses.

The largest fire, 130 miles to the north, has been burning around Ventura. The Thomas Fire has scorched 132,000 acres and it is 10-percent contained. The Rye Fire in Los Angeles County is 7,000 acres and 25-percent contained and the Creek Fire in Los Angeles County is 15,323 acres and 20-percent contained.
