Utilities May Eclipse CA Renewable Standards A Decade Early

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — In 2015 Governor Jerry Brown signed a law mandating that 50-percent of the electricity sold by utilities come from renewable sources by 2030.

Yesterday an annual report submitted to state regulators showed that the three largest providers, PG&E, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas and Electric, are on track to reach the mark by 2020, 10 years early.

The report notes that all electricity retail sellers were required to meet a 25-percent standard by the end of last year. PG&E was at 32.9-percent, Southern California Edison was 28.2-percent and San Diego Gas and Electric was 43.2-percent.

The state requirements have prompted a boom in the construction of wind and solar projects. You can read the report submitted to state regulators by clicking here.
